The Macromolecular Biophysics (MacBio) Core offers access and training to a range of instruments that can be used to biophysically characterize biological macromolecules. These resources were previously available only to a few labs at the SOM, but the core now centralizes them and provides training to all JHU researchers. Some of the available instruments include Biacore 8K (SPR), Refeyn Two-MP Mass Photometer (MP), NanoTemper NT-11.5 for Micro-scale Thermophoresis (MST), Agilent HPLC coupled to Wyat's Heleos II and T-REX detectors for Size-Exclusion-Multiwavelength Light Scattering (SEC-MALS), Malvern's VP-ITC and ITC200 for Isothermal Titration calorimetry (ITC), capillary DSC for Differential Scanning Calorimetry. The MacBio Core also offers facilities and instruments for macromolecular crystallization, such as a Mosquito-LC crystallization robot and a RockImager automatic imaging and constant temperature room. These resources are overseen to ensure that inexperienced users receive proper training and guidance.
